How to enter your IEP goals into Goal Tracker

Jan 28, 2009

We sometimes get questions about moving existing goals and objectives into Goal Tracker. Today we are going to give you a quick glimpse into the method:

What you need to know first!

Goals: In Goal Tracker a goal is different from an objective in that it does not have to be measurable. A goal is an overall statement that encompasses objectives. An exmaple would be "Improve Writing Skills."

Objectives: Objectives are the measurable parts of a goal. There can be many objectives inside a goal that need to be completed for the goal to be mastered. An example would be "Jack will successfully write his name 3 out of 5 times for 4 out of 5 sessions."

Objectives should be entered into Goal Tracker in a way that is measureable. When creating an objective, you will need to add short term or long term objectives that can be measured.

Here is an example of an objective that can NOT be tracked in Goal Tracker:

Jack will be able to successfully write his name.

This objective must be changed into something can be measured before it can be entered into Goal Tracker.

Here is an example of a very simple measurable objective:

Jack will successfully write his name 3 out of 5 times for 4 out of 5 sessions.

This objective includes:

  • The actual objective (Jack will successfully write his name)
  • Criteria that can be measured (3 out of 5 times per session), and
  • A time period for mastery (4 out of 5 sessions)
This goal can be quickly and easily entered into Goal Tracker.
